Paranormal Equipment
Answer:
I here this question often, which EMF meter should I buy? My answer is always the same and it starts with a little education on the background of EMF meters and paranormal investigation. One of the mistakes many people make when getting into the business of Ghost Hunting regarding EMF meters is that they rely on the device as a ghost detector which they are not! Most EMF meters were never intended as a device for ghost detection but rather to assist in maintaining a safe and reliable electromagnetic field around equipment and transmission devices that produce an EM field when operating. It was thought at one time that a ghost or spirit could produce an EM field when present or trying to manifest itself. This led to the popular belief that an EMF meter could always be used to detect a ghost or spirit that may be present.
I can tell you from experience that 90% or more of the EMF fluctuations that we measure on investigations are manmade and do not appear to be caused from a ghost or spirit. Furthermore, most EMF meters on the market are calibrated and designed to work in the 60HZ AC field area and are produced to detect manmade EM fields which they do extremely well! However, there are some EMF meters which are designed to assist in detecting EM fields which are more closely related to paranormal research. These devices are called Natural EM Meters and AlphaLabs makes a very accurate and professional style Natural EM Meter. This type of meter will reject the manmade EM fields produced by electronics devices and power lines and focus on detected natural DC static electric and magnetic fields. My use of the type meter has been far more successful in detecting anomalies which could be paranormal than the use of the standard AC EMF meter.
So with that said, a logical EMF meter to purchase for paranormal research and ghost hunting would be a Natural EM which as I stated before AlphaLabs, Inc. makes a very nice meter for this kind of research at a reasonable price falling around $300 bucks with some decent features. I would also recommend having a budget AC EMF meter such as a KII or MEL-8704 for standard EMF measurements in the field.
