MFPS Case Studies

Certain details of various cases are compiled here for discussion and study. Please keep in mind that we have a strict policy of confidentiality and will not post any case details here without approval from the client.

In the 20+ years I have been investigating paranormal cases roughly starting around 1982 I have logged over 100 cases to date. Many of these cases have details in old paper notes and notebooks, contacting these people to obtain approval for website submission is a daunting task.

We have also had request from many current clients to keep their case details confidential. I have seen paranormal societies having posted names, cities and pictures and/or video that reveal the home owners property and we here at MFPS believe that this practice is wrong and will not conduct such practices here. We are a serious paranormal research group that is not in it for the fame or to compete against other paranormal groups for case ratings like we see happening with so many others. Simply put, we are here to help the client and further our knowledge, experience and education on the subject of the paranormal.

However, what we will do is share our knowledge gained from the case evidence with the public and other paranormal investigators. We believe there is still much more to be learned from this field of research and sharing knowledge and experience with other paranormal groups is a step in the right direction to a better understanding of the paranormal.

MFPS Case#: 00247

Case Number 00247 (Cuyahoga Falls, OH - EMF Induced Hallucinations)

Other private details left out. This case involved a middle age woman about 46 years of age. She claimed that several times near her bed at night she witnessed a black mass roughly resembling a human out line about 4-5 feet tall standing near the bed. She also stated the figure was larger near the bottom and smaller towards the top.

One of these events, she stated that the figure or mass moved towards her at a high rate of speed causing her to quickly pull the bed sheets over her head in fear. Upon removing the bed sheets from over her head the mass was no longer present. Further interviews and discussions uncovered she was having vivid dreams that were sometimes frightening and other times made no sense. She stated these were occurring around the time of the black mass experiences.

Investigation uncovered no drug or alcohol dependency. No sign or history of mental illness. She worked a full-time position, married and raised several children. Character references were all satisfactory. She was not currently taking or recently had taken any medications that could have produced hallucinations. Career position could not have introduced any possible elements that may have contributed to these experiences. The initial site survey was normal, nothing out of the ordinary was apparent.

The house and structure seemed sound and other occupants interviewed mainly spouse and 2 older male children had no experiences to back up the claims. Team members had no experiences and nothing recorded. As the investigation continued an investigator noted an exceptionally high level of a stationary EM field present in the Southwest corner of the bedroom where she had been sleeping. Upon further investigation we found the EM field to be propagating from an older what looked to be early 90's Radio Shack alarm clock.

A closer look revealed an astonishing 310 milliGauss exposure level that radiated to about a 3 foot area around the alarm clock. Closer measurements of the clock were off the scale! This exposure radius placed the woman's head directly in the EM field at night when she slept.

We revealed the findings to the home owner and recommended replacing the clock with a newer more energy efficient model. We explained the link between high EMF exposure to the human body and its effects such as hallucinations, skin irritations, headaches, ringing in the ears, nausea and etc. She promptly removed the clock and purchased a new model. So far, about 6 months has passed and no black mass figures, strange dreams or anything paranormal has occurred.

We believe that this was a classic case of EMF exposure, but we will keep in contact with the woman periodically as a follow up. I think this was a great case and gives us all a good lesson to learn.

There were no photos, audio or video evidence selected here for this case listing. The study of this case reveals important considerations when investigating claims of a haunting. It is very important to check for all man made causes of the phenomena before placing the label "Haunted" on a case. We continue to study this case and watch it closely, there is still much to be learned.

MFPS Case#: 00248

Case Number 00248 (Akron, Ohio - Private Residence)

Private Residence located in Akron, Ohio. This case involved a family that was experiencing various paranormal phenomena such as footsteps, shadows, apparitions, toys moving and turning on and off, voices, feelings of being watched and cold spots. The case has been ongoing since last December and is drawing near a close.

Initial investigation yielded a fair amount of personal experiences and some decent evidence both audio and visual. During the investigation two investigators saw what appeared to be a short dark shadow about 3-4 foot tall. One of the investigators saw it twice, once in the attic room where it appeared to peak its head and upper shoulders around a solid stairway banister for a few seconds and then return behind the banister. Another time the figure was seen at the far corner of the room standing in the corner apparently looking at the investigators, the figure soon vanished. These sightings of a shadow figure are personal experiences and cannot be considered as evidence although they are important to the case.

During the first investigation we experienced cold spots during an EVP session in the attic room one which appeared on Eric's leg for about 30 seconds. Scott promptly measured the surface and ambient temperature of Eric's leg and the area around the couch that he experienced the cold spot, it was almost 20 degrees colder than the surrounding area and quite a bit colder than the other leg. Scott then felt the anomaly about 10 minutes later.

There was a strange quick flash of light that appeared on the other side of the room, we did capture this on video and it will be included here when compiled. We also heard and recorded what we believe to be footsteps causing the wood floors to crack and creak, the footsteps were different than most house settling sounds we have heard in the past because they had a characteristic almost like a heal to toe placement on the floor.

During evidence review we captured several EVP’s one of which appeared to be a small child answering “Myself” to a question asked during an EVP session. We also captured what appeared to be a shadow move across the kitchen on MiniDV but it was questionable because we had positioned behind the investigator crossing the kitchen at the time a fixed IR camera. Although it did not look like most IR shadows we were used to seeing and being much darker than IR shadows we have seen in the past we had to label the clip inconclusive.

Our research provided information on a 6 year old child that was killed by a passing car on Halloween night during trick or treat. This was the child of the parents that owned the house prior, both since then have passed away.

During an EVP session in the attic room we were able to measure a 10 degree drop in temperature as a cold spot moved around the room passing by investigators and the clients. Aza was able to help us confirm the presence of a small child named Robert which Aza stated during the EVP session that he preferred to be called Robby.

Aza also confirmed the presence of several other spirits that appeared to be attracted to Robby and two of them were identified as ancient spirits one of which was described by Aza as being a Native American. During another EVP session we asked Robby to take a picture, we had a voice recorder with placed near us and another at the far end of the attic room near the banister. When we started our count to 3 to take the picture we picked up an EVP on the far recorder that said “Wait“.

Case Update: April 29th, 2009

I have received word from the client that paranormal activity continues such as people being touched or poked and the continued sighting of a child sized shadow figure seen on the stairs and 2nd floor family room. The family has requested that we perform a House Cleansing in hopes that it will calm the activity or possibly bring peace to the restless spirit(s) that dwell in their home. We have agreed to perform the ritual, Scott, Eric and Aza will be present during the cleansing.

Case Update: May 11th, 2009

So far the client has reported that activity is quiet. We will continue to follow this case for a while longer until the client informs us that they feel comfortable.

Case Number 00250 (Kent, Ohio - Delta Tau Delta Fraternity)

The Kent State Fraternity Delta Tau Delta asked us to investigate long time claims of paranormal activity at their fraternity house located in Kent, Ohio. The case is currently closed. After reviewing all the evidence and personal experiences we cannot claim the place to be haunted nor can we say it is not. At this time we can only label this case as inconclusive.

Below are all the experiences and evidence gathered during the investigation although not the best evidence ever captured it was all we could find during the course. There is a video and a few audio clips, no pictures were discovered to have any anomalies so were not included.

	EVP #1 - "Erik"
The EVP below was recorded in the Tower room. Scott, Jennifer and Erik were conducting an evp session when a whisper was heard calling Erik's name. You can hear "Erik" then following that Erik asks in anyone whispered.
	EVP #2 - "Timothy"
This EVP was captured in the Cage room during an EVP session with Eric and Shawn. It is very faint but can be heard with headphones. We were asking for a spirit to provide us with a name and we got "Timothy".
	EVP #3 - "Fast Talker"
Also in the cage room we picked up this sound which is referenced as a "Fast Talker". These are voices that appear to be communicating in a faster speech pattern. Many times when slowed down they can be understood.
	EVP #4 - "Ok that was"
This voice was captured in the Beaver room. This capture was highly debated and was almost thrown out because we could not identify the origin as a true EVP or a person in the room. It responds with "Ok that was".

Notes for Delta Tau Delta Case:

There were high levels of EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) detected in basement area covering most of the area. Wiring in ceiling measured about a 300-400mG EM field and about 1/2 way to the floor their were levels reaching 100mG. The 1st floor area above the basement measured levels between 50mG and 75mG especially in the the area where the couches and television are located in the living area. Levels were normal above the 1st floor measuring around 2.5 to 3mG.

Case Number 00251 (Massillon, Ohio - Private Residence)

Private Residence located in Massillon, Ohio. This case is still open, the second phase of the investigation is underway currently. Because of the activity involved in this case we have decided to post some of the phase 1 findings.

We were asked by the client to assist them in finding some answers to the paranormal events that were taking place in their home. The claims were as follows; Shadows, Apparitions seen by their 3 year old son, Footsteps, Knocking, Objects being thrown or knocked over, Toys turning on and off on their own, Voices, Scratching sounds on doors, Feeling of being watched and more.

Our research on the premises provided quite a bit of detail about the history of the house and the area. The house sits atop an old abandoned coal mine that was in operation from the mid 1800's to about 1950. There were several confirmed deaths associated with the property including a woman that lived in the house during the 20's & 30's who had died in the house in 1940. Her funeral was held in the house also. Some of the most interesting evidence is that of their 3 year old son seeing an apparition of a man in a mask with a dirty face. He has told us and his mother several times that he appears to him in the toy room, kitchen and elsewhere in the house.

We also uncovered a story that took place back in the 1950's. Two young boys were playing along side the river that runs behind the property near the coal mine when one of the boys slipped and fell into the water. The current started to drag him down towards the culvert that entered the city underground where this would have surely killed him when a man reached in grabbed the boy and pulled him to safety. The boy stated that the man looked like a coal miner wearing overhauls and having a dirty face just left without saying a word and walked into the woods and vanished.

The local authorities pursued this man to honor him for what he had done but could not find him. The local papers wrote about the incident asking the man to come forward so he may be appreciated for what he had done to save the boy but nobody had ever come forward. This sounds like a classic ghost story but we actually interviewed the man who was the friend of the boy that was there that day. He appeared to be very credible. The man who at the time was the boy who fell into the water was unavailable for interview.

	Metal Scrapping Sound
This sound was captured during an EVP session with Erik and Shawn in the Cellar. The sound is what we believe to be a metal scrapping sound that was also heard by the investigators at the time.
	Tapping Response
During an EVP session with Erik and Shawn, they asked for the entity to make a noise and received a tapping or knocking response. These were heard through the evening at various time in response to questions.
	EVP - "Yes"
This EVP was recorded during an EVP session with Eric, Scott and Jennifer. It is very faint but can be heard with headphones. A question is asked and we receive a "Yes" response.
	EVP - "That's not mine"
This voice was captured in the cellar during an EVP session with Scott, Eric and Jennifer. Scott asks if that was him that casts a shadow on the wall in the cellar where many time the client will see a shadow pacing back and forth. We recorded "That's not mine".
	EVP - "It Won't"
This EVP was captured our second trip to Massillon. Erik and Shawn were trying to get the entity to turn the flashlight on and off like they did during the first trip, this time the flashlight was not operating correctly when they captured this very clear EVP.
	EVP - "Hey"
This was recorded during and EVP session in the cellar when Erik was asking the several questions including some personal questions about job, home, wife, family and etc. We picked up a long "Hey" in response to a question "What company do you work for.

Private Residence located in Akron, Ohio. This case is closed. No evidence of paranormal activity was found however we did discover a cause for the strange symptoms the home owner was feeling and seeing. We believe Infrasonic's was responsible for many of the clients symptoms and claims. A detailed report is being compiled and will soon be posted.

Case Number 00255 (Akron, Ohio - Private Residence)

Private Residence located in Akron, Ohio. The client contacted us to help them investigate what they believe to be paranormal occurrences. There were 3 separate accounts from people living in the house, they were as follows:

Client #1: Was a young female about 25 years of age. She had reported to us seeing and hearing various strange occurrences such as a fast moving shadow which would be seen out of the corner of her eye near the hallway that lead upstairs and to the kitchen. She also had seen this shadow moving from her living area to the dining area past the patio doors. The shadow is normally seen at night. She reported hearing footsteps on the second floor when nobody was upstairs occupying the bedrooms.

Client #1 stated that while sleeping on the couch she felt a heavy weight or pressure pushing down on her which she described as a feeling that felt like is was pushing her chest into her back.

Client #1 has also stated that the secondary or spare bedroom door would open and/or close by itself but would never close with a force enough to latch. We checked the door's position open and closed for it's potential to drift on its own based on angle and level. The door was level and did not exhibit and forward or backward momentum on its own. According to the client this would occur when all windows and doors were closed. We did however open a window and opened the front door and closed it rapidly to check for any movement. The door only moved about 1/8 inch, not enough to engage the momentum it would need to travel the distance to a closed position.

Client #1 reported several electronic disturbances such as an X-Box game system switching on apparently when nobody was around to play with it. We unplugged the X-Box and re-applied power to test a power-up scenario to see if the X-Box would turn on if there was a power outage. The X-Box did not switch on after several attempts. Client #1 also reported new cell phone had mysteriously malfunctioned and would allow her to only use it with the speaker phone. Oddly enough, one of our investigators after the evening of the investigation had a failure with her phone only working on speaker phone mode. We also experienced several odd radio problems and recorder issues that were not readily explainable. We measured no electronic interference that could have accounted for these failures.

Client #1 also reported to hear what she perceived as a baby crying upstairs and a small boy crying out "HELP". Client #1 claimed to feel cold spots in both the kitchen and the master bedroom.

Client #2: Was a young male around 26 years of age. Client #2 has reported to see several full bodied apparitions in great detail. The first apparition seen was of a young female in her early 20's wearing a long nightgown and having a slash or cut horizontal across her front throat area. This female appeared to him several times and was once seen by him kneeling next to the bed in the master bedroom as if she was praying at the bed.

Client #2 claimed the female apparition once lunged at him or moved toward him quickly scaring him. This may have been just a perception of an attack by client #2 because many times an apparition will dart and move quickly which may give the appearance of a hostile move. If client #2 was actually seeing an apparition we do not believe it was a hostile act.

Client #2 also reported seeing an apparition of a middle aged male between the ages of 40 to 48 years old. This male apparition was wearing blue jean overall type clothing with a red or lighter colored checkered or flannel shirt. The apparition appeared to him but did not move around much. The male apparition had a cut or incision down his arm vertically and was showing Client #2 this wound. Client #2 also reported seeing a darker shadow figure that he was unable to describe much in detail other than it had appeared on the stairs, upper hallway and in the living area near the dining room. Client #2 claimed to have this dark shadow pass by him in the hallway once startling him.

Client #3: Was a young female also in her mid 20's that has reported seeing the apparition of a shadow figure moving and darting around the house. She had stated that the shadow would be seen both day and night and be visible near the dining area when seen. Client #3 also reported hearing footsteps and voices. Many of her claims are very close in description to Client #1 and Client #2 but more so with Client #1.

(1) EMF was flat for most of the dwelling at about 1mG with the exception of the electrical panel which measured upwards of 100 mG within a 2 ft. area around the wall box (Wall box was a Champion brand). Since the panel was located near the kitchen there was measurable EMF above 30 mG in some areas of the kitchen which could cause some effects in hypersensitive individuals.

It must be noted that the upstairs floor in master bedroom had cracked and creaked when walking in the bedroom area. Some of the cracks were very pronounced and must be considered for possible expansion and contraction noises during temperature changes and settling.

Team Personal Experiences:

Eric - During an EVP session in the master bedroom approximately 10pm Eric felt an overwhelming heavy feeling come over him. He described the feeling as a weight on his upper body and shoulder area that was oppressive. This caused a small amount of nausea and dizziness which lasted about 4 or 5 minutes before letting up. During this time a video camera was recording and pointed towards him but no evidence of anything paranormal was captured. A Trifield EMF was used by Eric but nothing was recorded on EMF at the time of the incident.

Eric then felt this effect once later in the evening in the child's bedroom again lasting about 4-5 minutes. Also noted by Eric when in the master bedroom he had witnessed what appeared to be a white ball of light towards the ceiling in the walk in closet. This was about the size of a baseball and was dimly lit. He later witnessed a smaller golf ball sized orb of light move in a erratic motion in the walk in closet during the same EVP session he felt the heavy weighted feeling.

Scott - During the investigation Scott had witnessed several time what he believed to be small white pockets of mist about the size of a baseball. One of these moved towards him ending up right in front of him near his chest area and vanishing. These white misty shapes were seen in the master bedroom. During one of the sessions Scott was near the master bedroom closet and had witnessed a hanger in that closet start to swing back and forth, although Erik rushed over and caught the hanger moving on video the initial event was not captured and cannot be entered as evidence in the case.

General Team Notes - During the investigation Scott and Erik had felt what they describe as a needle like poke in the back. This event occurred to each investigator within a 10 minutes tim span in that same room. A young female visiting the residence was interviewed and she described what felt like needle pricks starting at the top of her leg going downward towards the foot while in bed one night. We immediately asked if she was mistaking the needle like sensations for the common condition of paresthesia (A Limb Falling Asleep) and she said no that she knew what that felt like and this was different. She stated that the feeling was very direct and pinpoint and could feel the needle like pokes travel one by one down her leg.

Evidence Review - After reviewing all the evidence we only came up with two possible EVP's. After reviewing each of these one was thrown out because we believed it may have been from another investigator. The one EVP that we captured occurred minutes after Jennifer and Erik starting conducting an EVP session in the master bedroom when we recorded a voice say "Take Her ....", after "Take Her" we could not quite make out what the rest says but we may think it says "Take Her Out of Here". We can only speculate that the voice was speaking of Jennifer or it was residual and we were picking up a recorded energy.

There was no video evidence on either MiniDV, DVR or HD. We had wireless audio running in the attic area because of strange noises but nothing to mention was picked up there.

Our Conclusions - After careful review of all the evidence, research, interviews and personal experiences we cannot conclusively say this dwelling is haunted however many personal experiences and one possible EVP do suggest that an energy of some sort is present and causing some of these anomalies. If there is an intelligent entity here we were unable to document its presence. As always personal experiences cannot stand as evidence of a valid haunting.

Case #00255 Audio Evidence	"Take Her ...."
We recorded this EVP when Jennifer and Erik were in the master bedroom. They had just started a new EVP session when this voice was picked up saying "Take Her ...", maybe "Take Her Shoulder"? We believe that this may have been directed towards the female investigator in the room at the time.
