Thank you for a well informed and cited article. I am a fan of “paranormal State” however after seeing the Pen State episode I felt a little ..jilted??.. While I would never assume that Ryan Buell did not experience what he claims in the warden’s area, I was definitly confused by the implication of the 100+ year old window somehow being the cause, or that the community who built the structure where somehow involved in something sinister. I have seen many architectual elements in my travels that make me wonder about symbolism and interpretation but I felt Ryan and his Team did not take enough time to investigate this particular symbol correctly. Within 5 minutes with Google I was able to “debunk” the Satanism claim and with in another five minutes I found this article.
I believe there are more things in Heaven and Earth then we can know but I think ascribing false symbolism to something only sets us back from finding the truly curious and perhaps paranormal. again Thank you.

Hi, I have a daughter who is now 7. We adopted her from Russia at 9 months old and also a little boy 3.5 years and they both were in the same orphanage but are not genetic siblings. My mother died 3-2003 and my daughter was born 7-2003. Months after my mothers death. When my daughter started talking she developed quickly and could speak clearly and in full sentences. She could say 5 syllable words at 15 months old so very advanced. My mother had been gone for over a year and was not a topic of conversation any more. BUT my daughter would talk about her all the time every day. She would tell me Grandma in Heaven took care of me and my brother until you and Daddy came to bring us home. At first I didn’t think too much about it. BUT she started telling me things there was no way she could know. We believe in God but don’t attend church so she was not exposed to religion. She would tell us messages from my mom, Grandma in heaven said, ” She wanted all of you to stop worrying about her. She said if you could see how beautiful everything is here and how beautiful the music is you would be happy for me. You all need to move on I am happy.” One day she brought out of my bathroom a bear I had in there which I bought long before she came in memory of my mom. She brought it out and said, This is Grandma in Heavens bear.” She was only 16 months old. I said What? She repeated it to me and I said yes it is put it back, she did and hasn’t touched it since. She told my Dad ” Grandma in Heaven see you and watches over all of us all the time.” My Dad didn’t know what to say. She would tell me how my Mom came to her when she was crying in the orphanage and would sing to her and rub her back. She said they had tea parties together. She wanted to have more but they can’t now. She told me Grandma in Heaven takes me in the clouds with her. My Dad remarried and the only Grandma she saw with my Dad was his new wife and she loves her. But one morning when she got up and said, “Grandma in heaven said when Grandpa dies she will come and get him and take him to heaven with her and they will be in love like they use to be and they will then always be together.” She floored me, I would think at 3 she would have put the Grandparents she knows together not someone she never meet. I said oh ya why is that. She said Grandma told me. She also said that taking people to heaven was my job in heaven. She said she would come to earth and help people to heaven. I said job do you have jobs when your in heaven she said well that is Grandma job. ( there I hope she is wrong I hope when we die we don’t have to work any more and no jobs ) So many things to tell you but the most amazing was the last message we got from my Mom threw her was when she was about 4 years old. My husband who always explain these things away even if it makes no sense what he is saying. He was bring her home from pre-school she said do you know how Grandma in Heaven die? He said yes she died in a car accident. Which I told her months earlier. But this day she told her Dad how my mom’s accident happened which we didn’t know we just had several idea’s what might have happened which bother the whole family not knowing what really happened but again not a topic of conversation any more. But that day she told him Exactly in my Mom dialect what happened it all made sense it had to be the way it happened. She told us which way my mom turned Left and she said, my mom told her, “I didn’t pay attention like she should have , I just didn’t pay attention.”
She stopped me in my tracts and my Dad and the rest of my family but it made sense.
This was the last time she talked to my Mom. She said she can’t talk to people once there dead there in heaven and that is way up there and we are down here. She said in a way like what are you crazy Mom. I tried many times to see if she still can see and listen, but no and she has never talked to my mom ever again.
Before she stopped talking to my Mom she was never scared of the dark or her room or sleeping alone. Now she is scared to be in the dark and won’t sleep alone says there are monsters in her room. I sprayed imaginary Monster spray threw her room which worked for a week but the monster came back. I told her to talk to Grandma and ask her and God to keep the monsters out these work for moments but not long. She has become historical at time when we have forced the issue of sleeping in her own room not with us or her brother. I want to know if she will be able to talk to the other side again or does gifts like hers go away and not come back? Have you ever heard of anything like this before? Was this my mother way of putting us at ease about her death and used her to tell us?
When my Mom first died she was with me for about 4 months doing different things in our home. But all of this stopped before my daughter got home. Tell me what you think.

could you clarify this point?

“Don’t use a high end portable recorder such as a Tascam or other pro studio recorder model, these are engineered to mask out unwanted EMF and are shielded so well that capturing EVP’s may be very difficult. If you are trying to capture sound in a room or area then these will give you superior quality with no compression.”

The first sentence is clear to me but the last one sounds like an endorsement despite the disadvantage of the shielding? Also I find it impossible to get a digital voice recorder that doesn’t use MP3/WMA or some other compression without getting a more expensive one that’s probably shielded too well at the same time, do you have any specific model recommendations?

I agree that children can be very sensitive and be a great source of information when investigating a alleged haunting but you must keep in mind that they can have incredibly vivid imaginations also. Young children have not been affected or corrupted by the world yet and their minds are like a sponge so they are very open to sensing these energies that we as adults many times ignore. Thats why many animals can sense a paranormal event before a human can.

This story is ongoing. Apparently the specimen is at a undisclosed location on ice. I’m not sure if it has been seen by anyone who is qualified to examine the body or not. If so, it should be week or so for testing to tell what it is.

Most likely a dead bloated animal. Ocean currents would have carried this animal to the beach (Long Island) easily as it sticks out into the Altantic coast and in the middle of the ocean current. Currents in the northern hemisphere move to the right and the Atlantic is no exception. The current moves up from Florida and deposits warm water into the north Atlantic while cool water finds it way down through eastern Europe down to Africa.

The rumor and suspicion about the animal “escaping” or being tossed from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center is next to impossible as well. The disease center is north of Long Island and anything that were to go into the water in that area would most likely end up in the Martha’s Vineyard area, but would definately not be able to travel south in the current.

The appearance of the animal is deceiving due to lack of scale in the photo (as pointed out by Eric of MFPS) as well as its bloated appearance and lack of body fur/hair due to the ravages of the ocean. This new animal seems to have been in a higher state of decomposition than the photos we saw in 2008.

There also lies the possibility that this animal is a fabrication based upon the first animal we saw last year. I doubt this as the body looks genuine, but in the age of video and photo trickery I would not doubt the attempt.
